Project Idea

The starting Technology Readiness Level (TRL) is 2 (Technology concept formulated) due to the innovative character of the project idea.

The possibility of validating the technology concept in laboratory, thanks to the mix of specific expertise in the research group, functional to the project, and to the advanced infrastructures made available by the Partners to achieve the BIOTRACK objectives, will allow to reach a TRL=4 (Technology validated in lab) within the planned 24 months project length.

The BIOTRACK project fulfils the technical requirements for radiobiology activities related to the TOP-IMPLART project, funded by Regione Lazio since 2013 and coordinated by ENEA in collaboration with Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and IFO-Istituto Tumori Regina Elena (IFO-IRE) for the development of a proton therapy centre in Rome. The high frequency compact linear proton accelerator is under development and test at the ENEA Frascati Research Centre, providing an optimal solution with better performances and more competitive costs than the existing circular accelerators, and representing a new research infrastructure open to the scientific community in the biomedical field.
